Zamfara councillor beaten, stripped, LG official fingers chairman

The councillor representing Galadima-Dangaladima Ward in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Sagir Dansani, was stripped naked and beaten to a coma by unknown persons.

Narrating his ordeal in an interview with The PUNCH, on his hospital bed in Kaura Namoda, on Saturday, Sagir said he was abducted from his residence by some thugs and taken to the local government secretariat where he was mercilessly beaten.

He said, “When I regained consciousness, I saw myself naked and that i cried for help. I was rushed to the Kaura-Namoda General Hospital for treatment.”

Sagir, however, accused the local government chairman, Alhaji Lawali Abdullahi, for being the brains behind his ordeals because, “we belong to different parties.”

He also said while he was being assaulted, one of his assailants told him that they would teach him a lesson for daring the chairman.

According to the victim, his trouble began when he refused to join the council boss who defected to the PDP when Bello Matawalle took over as the governor of the state.

Sagir further explained that he and many of his colleagues who were members of the APC had remained in the party a situation which he claimed the council chairman was uncomfortable with. He also accused the chairman of withholding their three months allowances.

When contacted, the council’s chairman, Abdullahi, denied the allegations, saying, “With Allah as my witness, I know nothing about this episode.”

The chairman further stressed that it would have been foolhardy for him to pursue such a course of action using the council secretariat as base

He said he had since directed security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of the act in order for them to face the full wrath of the law.

Others who were injured in the incident included: Mubarak Bello, Yakubu Sani, Ibrahim Ahmed and Alhaji Lawal Mohammed.
