President Buhari rejects calls for his term to be extended and says he will stand down next year.
President Buhari has turned down pleas from an elder statesman, Robert Clarke, to extend his term by six months so that he can address insecurity and then oversee a peaceful election.
Clarke remarked on Monday, May 9, on Arise TV that a credible election would be impossible to hold given the current condition of security in the country.
He said that President Buhari has the constitutional authority to extend his term by six months in order to alleviate insecurity and have a fair election.
