    Stretch marks are those narrow, extended lines that develop on the skin when the skin is stretched. Although stretch marks tend to affect more women than men, anybody can develop them

    This is one of the most common causes of stretch marks. Gaining a lot of weight in a very short expanse of time can cause stretch marks to appear on the skin especially on the waist, stomach, thighs and buttocks.


    Medical conditions:

    Certain conditions like Marfan syndrome(which causes a decrease in the elasticity of skin tissues) and Cushing syndrome( a condition that causes weight gain and skin fragility) can cause stretch marks to appear in the body.

    Corticosteroid use:

    Using corticosteroid creams and lotions over a long period can decrease levels of collagen in the skin. When this happens, the skin losses the strength to support the skin which can lead to the development of stretch marks.



    In most cases, stretch marks cannot be prevented. However, you can reduce your risk by maintaining a healthy weight and sticking to a healthy diet. Eating a balanced diet and consuming suitable amounts of vitamins A and C can help support the skin. Also, drinking at least 8 glasses of water every day will benefit your health and your skin.
