ROO MUST BE JOKING Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney tips Liverpool to edge Manchester City in Premier League title race

Former Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney begrudgingly admitted he believes Liverpool will beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season.

The soon-to-be Derby County striker was at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night to watch Gennady Golovkin reclaim his IBF middleweight title.

Rooney is regarded as a Manchester United legend after a stellar 13-year spell at Old Trafford
And while the Kazakh’s victory was met with disdain in New York, it is likely Rooney will be drawing equally disgruntled responses.

Having played for both United and Everton, tipping Liverpool to lift the Premier League is likely to have been difficult to admit.
But after watching Jurgen Klopp’s men claim an invaluable win over Leicester City on Saturday, the gap between them and reigning champions City is already starting to look ominous. Pep Guardiola’s men were stunned on Sunday by Wolves, who snatched a 2-0 win at the Etihad to open up an eight-point lead.
Speaking to iFL TV, the former England captain admitted it is looking incredibly likely it is finally going to be the year when the Reds’ end their 30-year wait for a league title.
Can Liverpool win their first league title in 30 years?
“In my opinion, Liverpool look the strongest,” he said.
“I think City are a fantastic team, I think Liverpool have improved on last year where City have stayed at that great level of consistency.
    “So I think Liverpool.”
