Manchester United want Real Madrid’s wonderkid Martin Odegaard – and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has put him right at the top of his wishlist, according to reports.
The 20-year-old Norwegian has spent a number of unsuccessful loan spells away from the Bernabeu since signing aged 16.
But during his latest temporary spell at Real Sociedad, the youngster appears to have hit his stride and is one of La Liga’s most outstanding performers so far this season.
Madrid have an option to recall Odegaard from his two-year loan deal, but it is thought the player may find first team opportunities hard to come by in Madrid’s susperstar-filled first 11.
He made his debut in 2015, but has only made two appearances since.
Now Manchester United are thought to be keeping tabs ahead of a possible move – along with other Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool.
A number of sides believe it would take £25m to land the player – but if his form carries on, prising him away from Zinedine Zidane’s grasp may prove difficult.
Price of Rice
Declan Rice may be a transfer too far for Manchester United and Ed Woodward, who has baulked at his £80m asking price.
The young England international has long-been linked to a move to Old Trafford, and it is thought the price tag is an attempt to ward off any January suitors.
Defensive midfielder Rice, 20, is attracting attention of some of Europe’s top clubs after making 77 appearances for West Ham.
But Woodward is unlikely to sanction such a huge transfer fee for a player so early in his career, according to reports.
Manchester United could be without Paul Pogba for their game against Liverpool after the international break.
Pogba was missing for United’s game against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night due to injury.
The 26-year-old damaged his ankle during the 1-1 draw with Southampton at the end of August and missed France’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against Albania and Andorra as well as subsequent United fixtures against Leicester and West Ham.
However, he returned to the starting XI against Rochdale last week before also playing the full 90 minutes of United’s draw with Arsenal on Monday night.
